Hey Folks,
In a little over a month from now, I hop on a plane to kick off my 40 city, 2014 UK/Ireland/France Tour.
As always, the big question is...
...will anybody show up?! :-)
Actually, some of my favorite gigs have been played to just a handful of people, in a tiny venue in the middle of nowhere. Although there is something to be said for a rowdy, sold out gig. Hey, truth is, even well behaved, sold out gigs aren't so bad!
But the real question is: how do I get the 'word' out, about the upcoming tour; especially, to the close to one million people who have purchased my albums in the past, but are not already on my email list, and may not know I'll soon be playing a gig in their home town.
It's a daunting task.
But, am I dissuaded?
No! Not one bit! In the face of all practical logic and common sense... I remain undeterred! "Why, Dean?," you may reasonably ask, "do you remain so optimistic, in the face of overwhelming odds? Are you a mutton head?"
Possibly. But, you see, I keep hearing about how this interwebby social-media thing-a-majiggy is an amazingly powerful tool for spreading messages around the planet at unprecedented speed and for virtually no cost! And so...
I figured I'd ask your help. I'd like to invite anyone reading this, who thinks their friends and acquaintances might actually enjoy catching one of my gigs and hearing some of my songs in concert, to help promote my upcoming tour by simply posting a few comments along with links to my songs via SoundCloud or YouTube, to your favorite social media sites, like Facebook, Twitter, Google+, MySpace (anyone?), LinkedIn, Pinterest, Tumblr, Instagram, Reddit, etc... or where ever it is online, or even in the real world, that you like to hang out.
That's all. Just recommend one of my gigs to your friends!
With just a few clicks of the mouse, you can help spread the word - and the music.
It's really simple. It'll only take a minute. Here's all you have to do: just...
How to 'Spread the Word - and the Music'
(1) Pick your favorite Dean Friedman tracks or videos via SoundCloud (click here) or YouTube (click here) or Lastfm.com or Spotify or Rdio, etc...
(2) Copy the url and paste it into your favorite social media site (or just click the SHARE buttons).
(3) Add a comment explaining how you feel about the music, what the songs mean to you, or how you feel about the live shows.
(4) Add the following message to the end of your comment: Dean's performing a 40 city US/UK/Ireland/France tour from now thru October. You can see Dean's full tour itinerary and order tickets and CD's at Dean's website: www.DeanFriedman.com
(5) Post and Repeat!
That's it. Relatively painless. See? Took no time at all. (O.K. maybe 90 seconds).
The point is, even if only a small percentage of the people on my email list actually follow through on this, I'm pretty sure I can sell enough tickets on the upcoming tour to fix the small hairline crack in my car windshield, with enough dosh left over to maybe buy a new capo for my guitar (they keep disappearing) and, I don't know, maybe buy a new harmonica.
But truthfully, I know most of you have got plenty of better things to do with your lives on a lazy weekend, than to go around clicking on links on your computer or tablet, when you could be out walking through the woods, breathing the fresh air, or reading the paper in the park, or playing fetch with the dog, or picking ticks off your cat, or grooming your ferret, or doing the crossword puzzle, or watching the terrific TV series, Orphan Black, about human cloning (hey, maybe they'll need a new theme song in season three!), or doing the laundry, or a zillion other things you could be doing today, instead of clicking on links and posting messages and such.
So, don't feel like you have to tell all your friends that Dean Friedman will be playing a 40-city tour all over the UK, Ireland and France, from July thru October (preceded by a few US gigs in June).
But, if you happen to get a chance to... I'd be much obliged!
