DeanMail: June - US Gig Alert & I.O.W. DVD

Hey Folks,

What's the difference between a musician and a pelican?

A musician never gets up oily in the morning. (Although Larry the Latke has been known to, on occasion)

O.K. enough bad oil-spill humor.

Here are just a few gig alerts and musical tidbits:

  • This Sunday, June 6 at 7:30pm I'm playing a gig at the Watercolor Cafe, Larchmont, NY. If you're in the Westchester area, come on by. Good food and music too. order tix

  • Then, a few weeks later, on Sunday June 20, 8:00pm, I'm participating in a round-robin, song-circle at the Axelrod Performing Arts Center in Deal Park, NJ, entitled, Songwriters by the Sea -  featuring songwriters, Willie Nile, Gary Lucas, Joe Rapolla, Joe D'Urso and myself. It should be fun. get info

  • After considerable delay, mainly due to slothful tardiness, my concert DVD, 'Dean Friedman - Live on the Isle of Wight' is finally available to order via my website www.deanfriedman.com It was filmed Oct. 28th 2008 at the Quay Arts Centre and includes familiar tunes and new stuff as well.

Here's a short clip from the DVD, a live rendition of 'I Never Really Liked You All That Much.':

Meanwhile, I'm still busy recording and editing, day after day, determined to finish the new album before the upcoming UK tour.

'Will he make it?!!', you ask.

Stay tuned to find out.

It's titled, 'Submarine Races', and I'm really excited about it. I hope you're gonna like it! ;-)

It's not too late to support these independent efforts, by the way. ;-)

'How?', you ask.

Easy! Order tickets to one of the upcoming gigs. Or treat yourself to the I.O.W. Concert DVD. Buy CD's for a friend. Or, if you like, you can pre-order the new album 'Submarine Races' (just click on the 'order Dean's next CD' button on my homepage). Or you could just send good wishes my way! ;-) (They're always appreciated too, although the currency exchange rate has taken a beating during this recession.)

Anyway, everybody be well. Hope to see you at one of the gigs. (did I mention the UK/Ireland tour is just 6 weeks away? Yikes!!)

Oh, and to partly atone for my insensitivity in exploiting the slow-motion catastrophe in the Gulf for the sake of a stupid joke (above), I provide the following link to what I believe to be a credible nonprofit environmental organization which focuses its efforts on protecting and rehabilitating our oceans, its shores and the abundant wildlife living in and around it: Oceana http://na.oceana.org You don't even have to contribute dosh, if you're short, just signing their online petition can help.

Besides, if all the world's oceans are polluted with oil spills, where will all the submarines hold their races?

In the bathtub?!!

All the best.
