Comments: Dean, I don't know how to begin this enquiry! However, my first child I christened 'Scooter' and my neighbour's kid has a 'Saturday Father' (sadly, more and more usual these days)....Saturday fathers appear as a common place phenomenon.I wonder if you have any idea how much significance this song (quite literally)has for me and my little chip of the old block.PS:She forgot to tell me that she didn't eat beef!

Comments: Dean, by far my fave song of them all, you don't need to experience it yourself to feel the emotions it provokes, btw, my 10 year old likes it as well and is often to be heard singing "Saturday Saturday..." around the house

Comments: Dean, I kind of forgot the beautiful album from you that I bought when I was much, much younger. Where were you? By accident I found your homepage and again more or less by accident I played 'Saturday Fathers'! You had me crying... stunned when you touched my sensitive spot, my weekend- children. You touched me a long time ago with 'Lydia' and 'Shopping Bag Ladies' and you lost none of the power in the beautiful lyrics and your superb voice. I think I sort of missed this intimacy. But I found it back in your songs. Thanks! I wished I was at your England tour and there is probably no chance of you ever coming to Holland. There must be a lot of unknowing fans of you here, I'm sure!

Comments: Dean, just heard this song on the radio in Ireland as I was travelling to the Airport, leaving my kids again for another two weeks. Jesus, I couldn't see out the windscreen 'cause of the tears. A beautiful song. I'm lucky that its just work that keeps us apart and not marital breakdown. Anyway, the song re-inforced my determination to change jobs. I've had enough of the absentee father thing. Any chance that you're playing in Amsterdam or Dublin ever ?

Comments: Probably one of the best songs ever to discuss divorce... I love the preamble to it on your Live CD... "Kids might be dumb in alot of respects, but they definitely feel it all"... Sums it up....

Comments: Dean, Of all of your masterpieces, this comes very, very high indeed. This reminds me so much of my childhood, that like most people's comments on this page, it reduces me to a blubbering wreck !! One day I might pluck up the courage to play it to my father.

Comments: Dean, I'm an absent father and everytime I hear the words of Saturday Fathers it makes me cry, I constantly feel guilty for leaving my children at such a young age (especially as my parents split up and I said I would never let it happen to me). My options were to continue to live in a sham relationship, arguing and fighting for 16 or so years for the sake of the kids or leave and whether it was wrong or right I took the second option. Sorry for the sob story but I had to tell someone and I thought you'd understand. Keep up the good work and come back to the UK soon.

Comments: The first two times I listened to this song (both at live concerts...I think at the Bitter End, even) I couldn't. Each verse had me in tears, unable to hear the remainder of the song. It's definitely my favorite, since at least "Lucky Stars"

Comments: Just ended a divorce after 10 years. I raised a child who I loved but who wasn't mine, I lost her friendship in the divorce. Maybe I'm too close to it all because your song made me cry. Dean you have a way of cutting right to the heart of any situation and ripping it out. Gotta' go, I'm off to order your kids stuff. You are a great talent!

Comments: If I have to admit to occasionally listening to Radio Two, I think it is best to try the regular programmes such as Sarah Kennedy, Terry Wogan, Ken Bruce, Jimmy Young, Ed Stewart, Johnny Walker and Katrina Leskanich. It may also be worth trying the producers that are listed. I think that Ken Bruce and Ed Stewart both play requests, but I may be wrong. There's my street cred just gone out of the window!

Comments: I find it hard to select a favourite track from the CD, but this has to be near the top along with Where have all the Angels Flown. I have been E mailing Radio Two to request them to play tracks from Songs for Grownups - perhaps if others try as well they might? See the BBC Radio Two website for all the E mail addresses. Saw you in Leeds Dean and really enjoyed it. Will be at South Shields next week. Keep up the good work. Derek

Comments: Dean, Loved the gig in Glasgow last night,I was suprised at just how soulful your music is! Do you like listening to modern Soul? Especially loved "Saturday fathers"..the chorus is beautiful. The track reminded me of a song from the 80s by a US artist called Cherrelle (with Alexander O'Neil), the track was called "Saturday Love". Hope the rest of the tour goes well. Thanks again, regards Mike&Jacquie.

Comments: A great song - one of the best - saw you at Bath last week and thought you were brill despite clearly having a cold... Despite the odd missed word or two the evening was good although you didn't seem at your very best? You seemed warn out but then you have been on the go in the UK for sometime now. When is the concert going out on Radio 2? Have been keeping an eye out for it and I hope I haven't missed it. Keep up the good work and don't keep us in suspense for too long before the next album. Comments: Yes, Suze, along with what seems like half my generation, my folks split when I was about five. A relatively mild handicap when compared to growing up in Bosnia, for example. But good material for what is one of my favorite songs.
